The Louisiana Department of Health has revoked the food permit for Firehouse BBQ in Watson for failure to comply with Gov. John Bel Edwards’ statewide mask mandate. It's the first punitive action the state has taken against a restaurant for failure to comply with Edwards’ coronavirus regulations.

But the restaurant remains open in defiance of the state’s sanctions.

The number of people infected with coronavirus in Louisiana continues to rise. 

State health officials identified multiple cases on Tuesday, one day after the first case was detected in the state.

The Louisiana Department of Health has reported the state's first "presumptive positive" case of COVID-19, commonly referred to as coronavirus, according to the office of the governor.

Nearly 84,000 people in at least 56 countries have fallen ill as the coronavirus spreads across the world. Earlier this week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the first case of coronavirus in a person who had no known history of travel to China, raising concerns of potential "community spread" of the disease, which is also known as COVID-19.

While Louisiana officials say the risk of contracting coronavirus remains low, preparations are well underway.

Gov. John Bel Edwards has officially chosen the new secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health following the departure of Rebekah Gee, the former head of the state’s largest government agency.

Louisiana health officials are reporting a third vaping-related death since August 2019, the first this year.

The news comes as the number of vaping-related illnesses nationwide has been declining for months.

The Louisiana Department of Health updated its vaping illness numbers on Friday.
