“The problem in our city is not that we’re too high tech,” tech entrepreneur and philanthropist Matt Wisdom said. “It’s that we don’t have enough technology in infrastructure.”

The New Orleans Police Department has hired former New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton to review the city’s security plans and harden it against future attacks after last week’s deadly rampage on Bourbon Street.

As concerns have mounted over the city’s anti-terrorism protocols in light of last week’s deadly truck attack on Bourbon Street, local and state officials have both promised official investigations.

Many departments will see cuts, though employees will receive 2.5% raises.

The ceremony was one part of a two-day stretch of events marking Morial’s life. On Sunday, the community was invited to a public visitation. Monday’s ceremony was followed up with a traditional second line and private family mass and burial.

Sybil Haydel Morial, a civil rights activist, widow of New Orleans’ first Black mayor, Ernest “Dutch” Morial, and mother to former Mayor, Marc Morial, has died at age 91.

Over the weekend, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu won a triumphant re-election victory. Even with the major progress New Orleans has made since Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, there are plenty of challenges for Landrieu to tackle in a second term, including high rates of unemployment and crime.
