It’s being hailed as the most significant advancement in civil rights for LGBTQ people since same-sex marriage was legalized, and it could have dramatic impacts in Louisiana.

It’s been three months since reproductive rights and anti-abortion groups swarmed the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court while lawyers for a Shreveport abortion clinic and the state of Louisiana faced off before the black-robed justices.

The United States Supreme Court heard arguments today in the first major abortion case of the Trump Era, considering the constitutionality of a Louisiana law that would require abortion providers to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital.

The United States Supreme Court has agreed to reconsider whether or not non-unanimous juries are constitutional. The decision comes about four months after Louisiana passed a ballot initiative requiring unanimous verdicts in all felony cases.

A Louisiana law requiring doctors who provide abortions to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital is set to go into effect after a long court battle. Last week, the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans denied a request to rehear the case. Opponents worry this law will make it nearly impossible for a woman to access an abortion in Louisiana, a right protected by Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court ruling issued 46 years ago this week.

New Internet Sales Tax Begins Rolling Out In Louisiana

Last year, the United States Supreme Court ruled that states could collect sales tax on internet purchases from retailers who don't have a physical location in the state.  Since then, Louisiana has been ironing out how that process will work.

The US Supreme Court has ordered a lower court to take another look at the case of the endangered dusky gopher frog and some protected habitat in Louisiana.

Fewer than 100 dusky gopher frogs are thought to be left in Mississippi. In order to survive, they need habitat with “ephemeral ponds” -- shallow ponds that regularly fill up and dry out.
