Jindal Presses Obama to Talk Medicaid with GOP Governors

Jindal, who is chairman of the Republican Governors Association, wrote to the president Thursday after a request from the Louisiana governor and 10 others went unanswered.

Republican governors, including Jindal, want flexibility on expanded eligibility criteria for Medicaid recipients, according to The Hill.

The Affordable Care Act expands Medicaid to cover people with incomes at or below 133 percent of the federal poverty line. The cost for the healthcare program is shared between states and the federal government.

The federal Health and Human Services Department announced Monday states have to expand eligibility to the 133-percent mark in order to get the full federal payment. The Obama administration said a partial expansion requested by some states is not an option.

Jindal has rejected Medicaid expansion in Louisiana, saying it’s too costly.
