Monday, Nov. 29, is the final day for south Louisiana residents who were affected by Hurricane Ida to apply for disaster relief from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
It’s also the deadline to apply for a disaster assistance loan from the U.S. Small Business Administration.
FEMA can help storm victims pay some expenses not already covered by insurance, including rental assistance, temporary housing, home repairs and personal property loss. To apply for disaster assistance, apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362. Phone lines will be open until 10:00 P.M. today.
Residents who have already applied can call the hotline number to check on the status of their application.
As of Sunday, Nov. 28, FEMA had approved disaster assistance applications from 552,108 individuals and households. The agency has disbursed just over $1 billion in federal relief funding to applicants.
FEMA approved about $576 million for housing needs like rental assistance, hotel costs, home repair and home replacement. About $440 million was approved for other needs, including debris removal tools, transportation and medical expenses.
Additionally, FEMA approved nearly $28 million for state and local government emergency costs like removing debris from public roads and power line repair. For the latest data, visit the Hurricane Ida page on FEMA.gov.
The original deadline to apply for FEMA disaster relief was Oct. 28, but the deadline was extended to Nov. 29 at Gov. John Bel Edwards’ request.
