LSU reopened for students, faculty and staff and returned to normal operations shortly before 11 p.m. Monday after campus was shut down for about 12 hours due to a morning bomb threat.
City, parish and state police along with officials from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms aided campus police in the investigation, searching nearly every building on campus, one by one.
Around 11:30 a.m. Monday alerts went out on cell phones and computer screens across LSU calling for a calm and quick evacuation. That was about an hour after East Baton Rouge Parish Police had received the 911 call reporting the bomb threat.
While a stream of students and faculty complained on Twitter of having been stuck in gridlock trying to leave, State Police Superintendent Mike Edmonson described the evacuation as rapid. He said it took less than an hour for the roughly 30,000 people on campus to vacate.
The authorities said Monday evening it was premature to make a link between the threat at LSU and bomb threats that prompted campuses in Texas, North Dakota, and Ohio to evacuate Friday. No explosives were found on those campuses.
