Residents were under a boil water notice this week after a water main break in the Little Woods neighborhood of New Orleans. The advisory was later canceled.

The Sewerage and Water Board said it canceled the boil water advisory that was issued Monday for a small part of New Orleans East after tests determined the water was safe to use.

The advisory was issued Monday evening after crews responded to a water main break at the corner of Hayne Boulevard and MacKenzie Street. The SWBNO said water pressures in the area fell below 20 pounds per square inch.

The following areas were under the advisory.

  • Hayne Boulevard from Read Boulevard to Paris Road
  • Paris Road from Hayne Boulevard to north side of I-10 Service Road
  • North side of I-10 Service Road from Paris Road to Read Boulevard
  • Read Boulevard from Hayne Boulevard to north side I-10 Service Road
  • Entire Oak Island subdivision

Residents were told to used bottled or treated water or to boil their tap water for at least a minute or before drinking it or using it for cooking or personal hygiene. Those with compromised immune systems were told to use safe water for showering and bathing.

Residents can go back to using tap water once they flush their pipes. To flush your pipes, run cold water through your faucets and appliances for several minutes.
