Garden District Book Shop hosts a virtual happy hour with children’s book author, Madison Webb, whose new book is ”Mardi Gras in New Orleans,” Friday, January 22, at 5 p.m. On Friday, January 29, at 5 p.m., Alys Arden appears to discuss her most recent book in the Casquette Girls series, "The Gates of Guinée." Both events stream live on Facebook and on the Garden District Book Shop Youtube channel.

The 14th annual Ernest J. Gaines Award for Literary Excellence will be presented in a virtual ceremony sponsored by the Baton Rouge Area Foundation at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28. Chicago-born writer Gabriel Bump will accept the honor for his debut novel, “Everywhere You Don’t Belong.” The event is free and a link to the virtual program will be available at the time of the event at ernestjgainesaward.org.
