Mayor LaToya Cantrell and the New Orleans Saints have come to an agreement on how to open the Superdome to football fans just in time for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.
The Oct. 25 game will accommodate up to 3,000 season ticket holders.
If city guidelines for reopening remain in place, the Superdome can admit 6,000 fans for home games against the San Francisco 49ers on Nov. 15 and the Atlanta Falcons on Nov. 22.
“Any additional changes to crowd size are only possible if current trends continue,” a statement on the Saints website reads.
There have been no deaths due to COVID-19 reported in New Orleans in two weeks and new positive infections are low, at 35 cases per day.
If the numbers remain low, the Superdome would be able to welcome 15,000 people into its stands for the Saints’ Dec. 20 game against the Kansas City Chiefs and the Dec. 25 game against the Minnesota Vikings.
The statement says the mayor’s office will be looking out for large gatherings in the Central Business District and French Quarter on game days in an effort to enforce the city’s social distancing guidelines.
