Louisiana Congressmembers Weigh in on Trump's Travel Ban

In response to President Donald Trump's recent executive order, which places travel bans on people from seven countries in the Middle East, Louisiana’s congressional delegates (U.S. Senators and U.S. Representatives) have commented.

U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy (LA-R) tweeted: "I know many physicians from these countries who provide vital health services to fellow Americans. Some are naturalized citizens and some permanent residents with green cards. Often times they work in rural areas or inner cities where there are no other doctors. Their ability to return freely to the United States after traveling is important to their patients, neighbors and families. Although I speak of doctors, there are others just as important. I am pleased to see that this order is being refined to address this and I look forward to it being further refined. Our nation's security and our Constitution can be respected simultaneously."

Majority Whip Steve Scalise (LA 1-R) issued the following statement regarding President Donald Trump's actions on border security:

"I applaud President Trump for taking swift action to secure the border. Securing America's borders is a basic responsibility of the federal government. It is absolutely critical to our national security that we stem the flow of illegal immigration and stand up for the rule of law."

Congressman Cedric Richmond (LA 2 –D) tweeted: “The Christian Right is wrong for being silent on this issue. It's the silence of good people that allows evil to persist.”

Congressman Clay Higgins (LA 3-R) has released a statement: "Radical Islamic Terror should not be a partisan concern. The President's executive order for a short-term restriction on visa entry from 7 countries that are known to foster terrorists, combined with a systematic review of our immigration and vetting procedure, is reasonable.”

Congressman Mike Johnson (LA 4 –R) has released a statement via Facebook: "It is clear that many in the media are intentionally misrepresenting the content of the president's executive order on immigration. It is a matter of common sense that we must carefully review persons entering our country from areas known to be terrorist strongholds. This is not an effort to ban any religion, but rather an effort to adequately protect our homeland. We live in a dangerous world, and this important measure will help us balance freedom and security."

Congressman Ralph Abraham (LA 5–R) via Twitter: "On immigration, I stand w/ President @realDonaldTrump 100%. We must focus on protecting Americans first! #LA05"

U.S. Senator John Kennedy (LA-R) and Congressman Garret Graves (LA 6-R) have yet to comment (as of 11:00 a.m. CST, Monday, Jan. 11, 2017).
