Law Enforcement Officers Shot in Baton Rouge

Law enforcement officials continue to work the scene in and around the convenience store where 3 officers were killed and another 3 were wounded Sunday morning.

Louisiana State Police commander Col. Mike Edmonson says they believe a suspect shot and killed at the scene was responsible for killing and wounding the officers. That gunman has been identified as 29-year-old Gavin Eugene Long of Kansas City, Missouri.

Two Baton Rouge city police officers were killed, with a third wounded, and one EBR sheriff's deputy was killed, with two other deputies wounded.

Gov. John Bel Edwards  issued a statement, calling this "an unspeakable and unjustified attack on all of us at a time when we need unity and healing."

President Obama condemned the violence against law enforcement, calling on Americans to "temper our words and open our hearts."
