Residents in the Lower Ninth Ward and parts of New Orleans East will no longer need to boil their water.

The precautionary boil water advisory issued for the following areas has been canceled, the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) said Tuesday.

  • All of the Lower Ninth Ward (east of Industrial Canal to Parish Line)
  • New Orleans East: Chef Menteur Highway from Jourdan Road to Elaine Street, Elaine to Intracoastal Waterway, Intracoastal Waterway to Jourdan Road
  • New Orleans East: Hayne Boulevard from Lucerne Street to Wave Drive, Wave to Morrison Avenue, Morrison from Wave Drive to Lucerne Street, Lucerne to Hayne Boulevard
  • New Orleans East: All of Venetian Isles

The notice was issued Monday due to a disruption in the water supply at the Carrollton Water Plant. It was lifted Tuesday after water samples from the area tested negative for contamination.

Residents in the affected areas can go back to using tap water once their pipes have been flushed. To clear your pipes, run cold water through your faucets and appliances for several minutes.

Customers who experience very low to no water pressure or a water or sewer emergency can call 504-52-WATER (504-529-2837).
