  • The Louisiana High School Athletic Association has voted to allow schools to play up one class above their enrollment class starting in the fall of 2013. Classes are assigned to keeps athletes playing at their age level and classification.
    The Livingston Parish Council has voted to file suit over the parish president for issuing checks that were co-signed by an interim financial director who was not approved by the council.
    A retired police sergeant who was assigned to investigate deadly shootings on a New Orleans bridge after Hurricane Katrina denies engaging in a cover-up.
    The Army Corps of Engineers says damage from last year's record spring floods could leave many people along the Mississippi River in even more danger this year. The Corps says it is assessing the damage and will begin notifying affected communities in February.

  • WRKF is happy to introduce Amy Jeffries as our News Director. Amy was in Baton Rouge following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, when NPR brought her in to help WRKF cover the aftermath. Her reporting has since taken her to China, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Jeffries says she's a southerner at heart and is happy to be back in Louisiana. She holds a Master of Journalism degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
