  • Administrators have taken down a political cartoon exhibit at Boyet Junior High School in Slidell. Some parents were upset by some of the political cartoons created for a social studies assignment. They're particularly upset by a drawing of President Barack Obama on which a bullet hole was drawn.
    A federal judge will not consider testimony about an earlier explosion that took place at a Texas BP refinery during BP's liability trial for the 2010 Gulf oil spill.
    The governor's budget calls for about $6.5 million dollars to be trimmed from the state Department of Education, mostly through the elimination of 58 agency jobs as part of ongoing restructuring.
    Gov. Bobby Jindal has proposed a $25.5 billion budget that closes a nearly $900 million gap with higher retirement costs for state employees, nearly 6,400 job cuts and a patchwork of one-time money.
