step closer to completion. State health secretary Alan Levine says a federal health agency has approved two key financial components of the deal. He also said the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services laid out a blueprint for financing the outpatient clinics. Those are now run out of LSU's Earl K. Long Medical Center.
Under the deal, Medicaid and free-care patients who use Earl K Long hospital would be treated at Our Lady of the Lake in the future. LSU's medical education programs would move to the Our Lady of the Lake facility on Essen Lane in south Baton Rouge.
Some care providers are concerned the move will leave north Baton Rouge without a hospital. Earl K Long would be shuttered as part of the deal.
