Lousiana State University's Hispanic enrollment has grown in recent years, leading to a Hispanic fraternity and a Latina sorority on campus.

Both the Phi Iota Alpha fraternity the Sigma Lambda Gamma sorority describe themselves as historically Hispanic or Latina, but open to students of all backgrounds.

Last fall, LSU counted 898 Hispanic students.
University statistics show it's the first time in decades the university's Hispanic enrollment has been higher than its Asian enrollment, which was 872 students last fall.

Phi Iota Alpha is starting with four members; Sigma Lambda Gamma is still organizing.
