In a House Committee in Washington on Wednesday, Louisiana Congressman John Fleming asked Interior Secretary Ken Salazar about the moratorium on new offshore drilling. Fleming believes the Obama administration wants to impede domestic oil and gas drilling.
In response to questioning, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said, "Until we get to the point where we believe that we can have that assurance of safety, we will continue to have our hand on the pause button."
The federal government is appealing the ruling that struck down the ban on new offshore drilling. Arguments will be heard on July 8th. Secretary Salazar has also vowed to issue a new moratorium.
