The Louisiana Recovery Authority officially closes today. Lawmakers created the state agency to oversee rebuilding plans after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Since then the LRA has coordinated more than $14 billion in recovery dollars for four hurricanes since 2005.
According to state law, the LRA expires June 30th. However, Robin Keegan, its executive director, says little will change.
Much of the LRA staff will move into Gov. Bobby Jindal's Disaster Recovery Unit, and continue working on recovery plans. Keegan oversees that Unit, so she'll keep charge of the state's hurricane recovery efforts.
One change is the public board meetings to discuss recovery spending plans will no longer be required. Also, the legislature will no longer have to approve those plans.
