In 2012 Louisiana residents will only have
to fill out one ballot for Congressional
    primaries.

Louisiana voters will again have all candidates to consider on one ballot, starting in 2012.

Governor Jindal signed into law a bill returning Louisiana to open primary elections for congressional seats. That means Democratic and Republican candidates will appear on the same primary ballot. Currently, the state runs a closed-party primary, meaning two separate primaries, one for Republicans and one for Democrats.

Baton Rouge Rep. Hunter Greene sponsored that bill. He says voters don't care what letter appears behind a candidate's name, instead, "they focus on the individual and whether or not they feel like they can trust that individual."

Greene says open primaries will save the state $13 million in election costs every other year.

Louisiana has only gone through one Congressional election cycle on a close primary system.
