LHSAA Votes to Allow Schools to Play Up 1 Class

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association has voted to allow schools to play up one class above their enrollment class starting in the fall of 2013. Classes are assigned to keeps athletes playing at their age level and classification.

The proposal was by Jesuit High School Principal Mike Giambelluca. He says the new rule won't solve every issue but it's reasonable and will benefit many schools.

Because of declining enrollment, the passage of the new rule could mean that the New Orleans Catholic League will be back in the 2013-2014 school year. However, Giambelluca says that was not why he made the proposal.

He says after discussions with other principals, he decided on the "one up" rule because that's what would be most beneficial to the majority of schools.
