Dugue Denies Cover-up Role in Katrina Shooting Probe

A retired police sergeant who was assigned to investigate deadly shootings on a New Orleans bridge after Hurricane Katrina denies engaging in a cover-up.

Gerard Dugue's federal trial on civil rights charges began Monday. He testified Friday that he now believes some of his former colleagues lied to him about their actions on the Danziger Bridge less than a week after the 2005 storm.

However, Dugue said he didn't learn the truth - that police shot six innocent unarmed people, killing two - until years after he submitted his report in the case.
A federal prosecutor's cross-examination of Dugue was set to resume Friday afternoon.
