The Army Corps of Engineers has signed off on projects to protect Barataria Pass and Cat Bay from encroaching oil.

The corps says it issued three emergency permits to BP allowing the company to install piles and boom in three new locations in Barataria Pass and in Cat Bay.

So far, the corps says it has issued 40 emergency permits and denied two. The corps says five other permits were withdrawn.
