| Who is WRKF? |
WRKF Public Radio is one of the country's most successful
community-based public radio stations, based on share of local
audience, and began broadcasting in January of 1980 as a classical
station. Supported largely by private memberships and corporate
underwriting, WRKF strives to balance diverse programming that answers
to popular demand as it relates to the future growth of listenership
and revenue to the station.
Nearly 55,000 listeners tune in each week to WRKF's
programming, which includes primarily news and information from 5 a.m.
to 7 p.m. weekdays and classical music from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Weekend
programming includes entertainment, humor, classical music and news
programming.
In addition to award-winning NPR News, A Prairie Home
Companion with Garrison Keillor, Marketplace with Kai Ryssdal, News and
Notes with Farai Chideya and other national programming, WRKF airs
about a dozen locally produced shows—topics range from statewide
politics and business to gardening, cooking, classical and folk music...
What is NPR?
NPR (National Public Radio) is a privately supported, not-for-profit membership organization, working in partnership with more than 800 independently operated, noncommercial public radio stations.
Today more than 30 million people listen to public radio stations every week, up from about 2 million in the early 1980s. This upward listener trend in the last two decades is in large part attributable to the astounding growth of NPR News, a national service anchored by hourly newscasts and two signature award-winning news magazines Morning Edition and All Things Considered. These programs are currently the second and third most listened-to radio programs in America.
Our Mission Statement WRKF strives to entertain and inform its audience through local, national and international news and cultural programming.
